Welcome to Marine Electrical Solutions Tech Talk.
Tech talk will be devoted to delivering solutions
to our customers’ marine electrical and
electronics problems, and perhaps suggesting a
few improvements along the way. Any new developments
in the marine electrical and electronics industry
that may be of interest will also be showcased
here.
Since this is the first Tech Talk I thought I
would kick it off by introducing my self and outlining
my experience.
Like most kids growing up in and around the Hauraki
Gulf my
experience with boating started with weekends
and holidays away on the family yacht which went
from a Raven 26 to a Young 88 to a Chico 355.
I began an apprenticeship in Automotive Electrical
Engineering in 1984 and after 4 years left NZ
on the big OE and moved to Bermuda. There I started
Bermuda Auto/Marine Electrical Ltd. The marine
side of the business grew until that dominated
our time and the business was split in two. Bermuda
Marine Electrical continued to grow and we started
bringing in New Zealand technicians to help with
the busy work load which consisted of many local
charter and foreign visiting vessels ranging in
size up to 150 ft luxury super yachts.
The pull of cruising eventually took over so after
10 successful years we sold the business and cruised
the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Caribbean in our
own 42ft yacht for 3 years. In that time we stopped
in Palma, Mallorca, the super yacht capital of
the world and I worked for a local marine electrical/electronics
business, Danbrit, who specialized in refits and
servicing of super yachts of up to 250ft .I headed
up complete electrical refits of an American super
yacht sailboat and an American super yacht power
boat. We then moved on to Croatia where we left
our boat in storage to go and live and work in
Sydney. I joined the Barrenjoey Marine Electrical
team and was involved in all facets of electrical
and electronics but concentrating primarily on
Raymarine Electronics installations in New Riverias
and Beneteaus. After 10 months there it was time
to return to Croatia and cruising the Mediterranean
and Moroccan coasts and then back across the Atlantic
Ocean to the Caribbean islands. A new addition
to the family saw us finish cruising in Annapolis,
USA. We returned home to New Zealand where I worked
for businesses in Auckland and Blenheim.
When the time was right we decided
to open Marine Electrical Solutions Ltd. I wanted
to raise the bar on service to my customers and
so formed relationships with the best quality
product suppliers like Lusty And Blundell, Lighthouse
marine, BEP and many others. My prices are extremely
competitive with other service suppliers and retailers
in New Zealand and I am committed to the long
term.
Anyway enough about me, if you
have any questions or you want a free appraisal
visit to your yacht or power boat of any size
or budget, please
contact me.
